Massive Rainfall In South Johor Regions
Farmers Increased The Usage Of Foliar Fertilisers
Durian farmer is rare in south Johor regions. As a south Johor farmer, Jason admitted that it is feasible to do durian plantings at different geographical locations nowadays thanks to modern agricultural technologies.
In order to cope with the problem of heavy rainfall, Jason has increased the use of foliar fertilizers to reduce the nutrient loss problem as well as replenish nutrients that are deficient in durian trees.
Jason plants a lot of durian varieties such as D2, D7, D13, D18, D24, D158, D160, D197 and D200. Most of the old trees are Thailand variety e.g. D158, meanwhile the most abundant
trees in his durian orchard are Musang King young trees of 2-years-old. Anyhow, he thinks that it is necessary to improve the fertilization system in order to promote the growth of durian trees.
In fact, the south regions of Johor experience massive amount of rainwater which impacts durian plantings. Jason who owns a 17-acres durian orchard in Ulu Tiram is one of the planters affected by massive rainwater issue. As an example, there was as many as 161 rainy days throughout the year of 2020.
In order to handle the rainwater problem, Jason has increased the use of foliar fertilizers from Agrobridge (M) Sdn Bhd. This is due to the fact that granular fertilizers tend to be washed away by massive rainwater, whereas foliar fertilizers can immediately replenish nutrients as long as applying during the days without rain.
Replenish trace elements
Jason uses WUXAL Ascofol NPK fertilizer for daily fertilization. This fertilizer consists of equal proportions of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium elements as well as natural seaweed essence which promotes plant growth and boosts stress resistance.
Then, Jason will use high concentrated WUXAL Microplant fertilizer to replenish trace elements. Other than that, WUXAL Amino fertilizer is rich in natural amino acids that can recover injured durian trees and enhance the effectiveness of fungicide; hence it is used to reduce the risk of plant infections during heavy rainfall season.
Besides, WUXAL Fulvic fertilizer contains high concentrated fulvic acid that can stimulate the growth of root system and improve soil quality. During fruiting season, Jason will use WUXAL K40 fertilizer to enhance the quality of durian fruits. The preparation method of the above fertilizers is by diluting 70ml fertiliser with 20L water.
In short, Jason’s key of success is mainly by replenishing nutrients on time via effective fertilization.
Jason also uses Complex Green Special 15-15-15-5CaO-6S fertilizer to promote plant growth. Since this fertilizer is made of potassium sulfate, it is suitable for use of both mature and young trees.
On top of that, Jason applies Innotec 12-12-17-2+8S+TE fertilizer during flowering and fruiting seasons to boost the quality and production of durian fruits. Jason advised that durian planting in heavy rainfall regions is preferably to be carried out on sandy slopes to ensure good drainage system in the orchard so as to reduce the occurence of infections.
