Durian trees strengthened within 1.5 years
Father and son created unbelievable harvest record
A father and son invested their hard work in a durian plantation, from an ignorant start to a good grasp of the techniques led to ideal harvest.
Up to today, they still adopt the process of continuous improvement to bring fertiliser management practice to the next level.
Peng Shao Rong and son, Peng Wei Jian, are from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Due to their great interest in durians, 1.5 years ago they decided to take over a 10-acre durian orchard located in Karak Batu 18.
40% to 50% of the orchard are planted with local durian trees of around 30 to 40 years of age, including D24, Musang King, Tracka and others.
Peng senior explained that when he took over the orchard, the durian trees were terribly weak. On top of that, leaves were scarce, and damages caused by pests was widespread. It took the pair a lot of hard work and care to revive the trees to healthy state.
One of the factors that contributed to their success of reviving these trees was the fact that they used AgroBridge’s European-imported complex fertiliser, Innotec 12-12-17-2. This product produced significant results and is one of their primary fertilisers.
Record harvest that drew attention
According to their experience in the use of these fertiliser products, they had their recent harvest from December 2018 to February 2019. Particularly in mid-January this year, a day’s harvest could reach 1 to 1.5 tonnes and this harvest record could last up to 2 weeks.
“This is our best harvest record thus far and has become the talk of the town”, Peng senior informed.
Not long after the harvest, the flowering stage started unexpectedly early in mid-February. He accredited this to the long-term application of premium fertilisers and supplemented with optimum climate, led to healthy tree growth, growth of fresh green leaves and natural progression towards flowering stage.
Peng senior applies Innotec 12-12-17-2 and Innotec 12-6-24-2-3CaO fertiliser products. Innotec 12-12-17-2 is applied during flowering stage, at 2.5kg to 3kg per plant; Innotec 12-6-24-2-3CaO is applied during fruiting stage, at 2.5kg to 3kg per plant.
Besides, the father-and-son pair also apply Wuxal Microplant, Wuxal Ascofol and Wuxal Boron. Wuxal Microplant is applied after harvest as a form of topdressing, once every 2 to 3 weeks at the amount of 20ml to 30ml mixed in 20 litres of water; Wuxal Ascofol provides resistance during harsh weather; while Wuxal Boron is applied during flowering stage.
Wuxal Ascofol and Wuxal Boron can be applied in turns, once every 2 weeks at the amount of 20ml to 30ml mixed in 20 litres of water.
