Durian Saplings Have High Demand Towards Fertilizers
Combine Using Granular Fertilizers And Foliar Fertilizers To Promote Growth
Due to the high pricings of oil palm and durian, the demands towards their related saplings increase as well. In order to ensure the success of sapling transplants, the staff of Long You Nursery, Tan Boon Yek conducts fertilization of oil palm and durian saplings for plantations throughout the year.
Tan Boon Yek (right) thinks that the most effective way of fertilization is by combining the use of granular fertilizers and foliar fertilizers in the maintenance of saplings. Next to him is technician from Agrobridge (M) Sdn Bhd.
The choice of saplings sold by Tan Book Yek is dependent on the requirements of customers. Anyhow, it is the responsibility of Tan Boon Yek to make sure every sapling is maintained in good health. Basically, Tan Boon Yek always uses the fertilizer products from Agrobridge (M) Sdn Bhd. In terms of granular fertilizers, he uses Agrobridge 16-16-16 which is specifically for oil palm saplings that achieve 4-feet height at the late growth stage. Besides, he also uses Agrobridge 15-15-15 which consists of wax ingredient that helps to slow down the penetration of fertilizer. Generally, the dosage for both fertilizers is 5-6 granules only, while the frequency of fertilization is once per 2-3 months.
End year switches to foliar fertilizers application
When it comes to end year where rainfalls increase, Tan Boon Yek will interchange between foliar fertilizers such as WUXAL Macromix, Amino and Ascofol Zn by spraying once per 10 days.
These three fertilizers function for different occasions. WUXAL Macromix fertilizer is used for daily fertilization; WUXAL Amino fertilizer is used during rainy day; whereas WUXAL Ascofol Zn is used in the occasion of dry weather.The dosage for all these three fertilizers is the same which is diluting 30mL fertilizer in 20L water.
The technician of Agrobridge (M) Sdn Bhd highlighted that there are quite some advantages of using foliar fertilizers, for example can combinethe use of fertilizers with fungicide and pesticide because those products consist of emulsifier ingredients which aid in enhancing the effect of fungicide and pesticide, in other words they can decrease the dosage of fertilizers which eventually reduce the operational cost.
